A little about me
Sometimes people want to know a little about their therapist. So here’s me: I’m an animal lover (enthusiastic “dog person!” + oragutan fanatic), music geek, amateur pianist, and bookworm. I’m passionate about yoga, meditation, and holistic wellness. You’ll often find me hiking, traveling, cooking (with a little controlled chaos), or catching live music. And if you hear snoring during a virtual session, that’s probably my adorable rescue boxer mix, Poppy — it’s not you, she just loves to snooze.
By training and education, I’m a licensed clinical social worker, holistic nutritionist, and a board-certified health coach with nearly two decades of clinical experience, helping women just like you and me live healthier, happier, more authentic lives. (If you’re curious about my official education and training, click here).
But here’s the thing: my personal struggles – why I became a lived experience therapist – have informed my work just as much — if not more — than any degree. I’ve wrestled with depression since adolescence, anxiety since young adulthood, and disordered relationships with food and alcohol from my teens into my 30’s. I know what it’s like to feel trapped in cycles of self-sabotage, shame, and overwhelm.
I tell you this because I want you to know: I get it.
Talk therapy alone wasn’t enough. Yoga alone wasn’t enough. Reading self-help books alone wasn’t enough. None of these things on their own helped me fully heal or stop the patterns that kept me stuck (drinking all the booze or eating all the food or sabotaging relationships.)
It wasn’t until I started addressing mind, body, and spirit that I found sustainable change, and the freedom to help others find it, too. Because you know what? They’re not separate. Cue my holistic approach to mental health. And that’s the power of working with a lived experience therapist (with credentials!)
My life today looks nothing like it did in my 20s and early 30s. I enjoy the other side of healing, and it took time, effort, radical self-care, and a lot of support. It’s ongoing — and as your therapist, I commit to continuing my own work, so I can best support yours. I have my own therapist of 10+ years and dedicate over 100 hours annually to training, study, and consultation.
What it’s like to work with me, a lived experience therapist
I do things a little differently than most therapists.
I’m down-to-earth, believe in the power of humor to connect and heal, and I won’t shy away from a cuss word or two.
We get real, together. And it’s sometimes even kinda fun.
First-time clients often tell me they feel comfortable within minutes, more accepted than in past therapy experiences, and able to cover more ground in a single session than they ever thought possible. (Finding the right fit matters.)
You can always expect compassion and respect, even when (especially when) it’s tough.
You deserve a space where you matter most. Where you are uniquely seen and celebrated.
What I hope you’ll gain in our work together:
- Practice radical self-care, self-compassion, and self-acceptance
- Find peace from the non-stop mind-chatter
- Gain tools and techniques for big feelings, overwhelm, and stress
- Shift unhelpful lifestyle habits that keep you stuck
- Improve your ability to stay present and grounded
- Ask for what you need and set (and stick to!) healthy boundaries
- Sharpen your ability to listen to your intuition and to trust yourself again
